The recent stabbing death of a well known Goff Avenue babysitter has left the community of Orangeburg in utter shock. Interim Sheriff Barbara Walters made an impassioned plea to the community for any information and help that could assist law enforcement in an arrest and conviction of those responsible. Victim Caroline Hanton, aged 44 was discovered around 1 pm Thursday by her husband, according to a Sheriff's Office incident report.
Emergency Medical staff arriving on the scene declared the victim was in fact deceased. Orangeburg County Coroner Samuetta Marshall said Hanton was stabbed multiple times. There were four small children present at the home at the time the murder occurred but were all unharmed. All of the children were being cared for by the victim. Unfortunately they are all too young to be witnesses in the crime.
Orangeburg County Sheriff's Department needs your help with this crime. An initial investigation suggests that there was no forced entry into the home and that Mrs. Hanton may have let the murderer into the home voluntarily. There is a possibility that the victim knew the killer. They are cautioning residents in the area to use extra precautions when opening their door up and to be extra vigilante as the killer is still on the loose.
